About KrisAnn's Practice

KrisAnn Norby-Jahner concentrates her practice in labor and employment law, ERISA litigation and compliance, and general civil litigation, where she represents both plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of litigation matters.
In her ERISA litigation practice, KrisAnn provides support during the internal appeal process regarding long-term and short-term disability benefit denials and represents clients in federal court litigation. She also counsels clients regarding ERISA and the Affordable Care Act compliance issues. In her employment law practice, KrisAnn has provided legal counsel in a variety of cases, including those involving workplace discrimination, employment contract reviews, separation agreements, confidentiality agreements, unemployment benefits hearings, and employment policies and handbook reviews. She has also lectured on employment law considerations for both small and large business owners, as well as human resource professionals.
In addition to her legal practice, KrisAnn has worked at a variety of universities as an adjunct professor. She studied in both M.A. and Ph.D. programs, specializing in Contemporary American Literature and Law and Literature studies. Her extensive research and writing background has been a tremendous asset in litigation and appellate work. She has taught legal research and writing, moot court, composition, and other courses at the University of Minnesota Law School, Hamline University, Kent State University, North Dakota State University, the University of Mary, and Bismarck State College. She finds her background and education in English and in the Law to work hand in hand: “A successful lawyer must have good writing skills, communication, analytical ability, and the drive to learn every day. My teaching and writing background is the foundation for my legal practice.”
Prior to joining the Vogel Law Firm in 2015, KrisAnn practiced in the Twin Cities at Hellmuth & Johnson (Edina, MN) and Mansfield Tanick & Cohen (Minneapolis, MN). She obtained a J.D. from Hamline University School of Law, where she was active on Law Review, the National Moot Court team, and the Alternative Dispute Resolution program; Ph.D./ABD from Kent State University; M.A. from North Dakota State University; B.A. from Minnesota State University Moorhead; and A.A. from Minot State University-Bottineau, where she played college basketball. KrisAnn is also able to mediate disputes as a qualified neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice.
