Employers Counsel Network (ECN) members make a difference in New Orleans
April 30, 2010
Nashville, TN (April 30, 2010) - Members of the Employers Counsel Network (ECN) made a difference in the lives of displaced residents of New Orleans by participating in a workday for Habitat for Humanity before the start of the ECN annual conference on April 21, 2010. Fifteen ECN members spent the day constructing a 71-foot section of sidewalk. While the work was challenging (the concrete had to be mixed one 80-pound bag at a time), everyone agreed it was an intensely rewarding experience.
ECN members Susan Fentin and Mark Adams coordinated the project. Susan is editor of Massachusetts Employment Law Letter and a partner with Skoler, Abbott & Presser, P.C., in Springfield, MA. Mark is editor of Louisiana Employment Law Letter and a partner with Jones Walker in New Orleans.
"It was a profoundly moving experience," said Susan, who previously participated in the program while vacationing with friends last May. "The Habitat organization is amazingly capable of finding meaningful work on the building sites for anyone who is interested in helping."
More than four years since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita ravaged the city, New Orleans is still hard at work continuing the progress of recovery. New Orleans Habitat for Humanity has helped more than 379 families become Habitat homeowners -- 278 of those just since Hurricane Katrina. "Our success is directly attributed to the volunteers who continue to support our efforts by coming out and working day after day and our incredible donors who provide funding for our homes," stated Jim Pate, executive director, New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. "Their tireless efforts give us faith and support to support our mission of building low-income housing."
Employers Counsel Network (ECN) is comprised of top-level law firms in all 50 states -- plus Washington, D.C., and Canada -- the ECN advises and represents employers regarding workplace issues and disputes. Each ECN firm was selected because of its outstanding reputation in the field of employment law. Attorneys at ECN firms are well known as editors of their state's Employment Law Letter or Federal Employment Law Insider, monthly newsletters for HR professionals and in-house counsel from HR Hero.
